Non Secretory Multiple Myeloma With HCV Infection: A Rare Case Entity

Multiple Myeloma is a neoplasm of B cell lineage characterized by excessive proliferation of abnormal plasma cells. It is characterized by a clinical  pentad of 1) anemia, 2) a monoclonal protein in the serum or the urine or both, 3) bone leisons and or bone pain, 4) hypercalcemia >11.5g/dl and 5) renal insufficiency. Non secretory multiple myeloma is a rare variant of the classic form of multi...

Detection and identification of serum monoclonal immunoglobulin by immunoisoelectric focusing. Limits of sensitivity and use during relapse of multiple myeloma.

The limits of detection of four classes of monoclonal immunoglobulin and free light chain in serum by isoelectric focusing and immunoisoelectric focusing have been determined and the sensitivity of these techniques compared with that obtained using immunoelectrophoresis and zonal electrophoresis with immunofixation. Immunoisoelectric focusing was 10-40 times more sensitive than immunoelectropho...

Non-secretory immunoglobulin E myeloma associated with immunoglobulin G monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance

A 68-year old woman came to our hospital with a severe case of anemia. Serum immunoelectropheresis identified a monoclonal immunoglobulin (Ig) G and κ protein. The serum IgE level was within the nomal range and the amounts of remaining immunogloblins were low. On bone marrow aspirate, plasma cells made up 55.5% of nucleated cells and the plasma cells showed positive readings for IgE κ and IgG b...

Non-Secretory Myeloma: Ready for a new Definition?

Non-secretory myeloma is a rare myeloma subtype whose diagnosis, until a few years ago, was established by demonstration of monoclonal plasma cells ≥10% in the bone marrow and by negative results on serum and urine electrophoresis and immunofixation studies. However, this type of myeloma could be misdiagnosed if the workup does not include an accurate study of serum free light chain test since ...

Serum paraproteins in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

The presence of paraproteins in the sera of 10 patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) was investigated using immunoisoelectric focusing. Monoclonal immunoglobulins were found in nine of these 10 sera. Five sera contained a single monoclonal IgM paraprotein, one serum contained a single monoclonal IgG paraprotein, while three sera contained more than one monoclonal paraprotein--namely...
